Climate change
(Sent by Elisa Rueda Bolívar, a student from Málaga, Spain)
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to this presentation. I'm going to introduce myself. My name is Elisa Rueda and I work for GREENPEACE as communications manager.
I want to talk you today about a problem that everybody is suffering. It is about "Climate Change".
To begin with this subject, I'd like to mention several questions that we are going to see along this presentation, as for example:
. What is the Climate Change?
. Why is it caused?
. Who is the guilty?
. What is the greenhouse effect?
. What are the consequences?
. How can we prevent it?
Once I had finished to talk finish talking you will be able to ask me all the doubts you have. I will try to answer all of
your questions after the presentation.
Firstly, we must know what is the Climate Change is. The
Climate Change is the global variation in the Earth's climate. These changes can be caused by processes internal to the Earth, external forces or human activities. However, the influence that our
activities have on the planet is called global warming.
Because of this, the temperature has increased two degrees in the last thirty years and it will go on increasing in the future if we don't do anything. On the one hand, thousands of people have some fault
of responsibility for this change, but on the other hand there are other reasons, as for example:
. The greenhouse effect
. To burn fossil's combustibles
. The felling and burning of trees
. The pollution that is caused by cars and factories
Some of these activities are giving off so much carbon dioxide and another gases into the atmosphere and they are accumulating. For this reason the oceans
and forest are having difficulties to absorb these gases with greenhouse effect. And this greenhouse effect makes that the energy arriving at Earth to
come back more slowly and for this reason these gases are keeping in the surface and the temperature goes up more and more.
The consequences of this climate change can be several, for example:
. The temperature can go up from 1,4 to 5,8º (degrees)
. There will be more twisters and hurricanes
. The sea level can reach from 9 to 88 centimetres approximately
. Some animals will become extinct
. The meteorological phenomena will be more violent.
. The poles will melt down
. There will be more droughts and floods
. There are more possibilities that a big meteor falls down above on the earth.
Despite everything, we can do a lot of things so that the world will be in the better conditions for future generations.
We can produce other kinds of energies as solar energy or eolic energy wind power. We must use the public transport, to save energy in our houses, to use
electrical appliances and light bulbs with lower consumption, etcetera.
In conclusion, my recommendations are that each of us must do these things for trying to stop the climate change and to save our planet.
Many thanks for your attention. Are there any questions?
