Easter
The word Easter probably derives from Eostre, the name of the Teutonic goddess of Spring and fertility. The Christians decided to use this word for the period when they remember the death of Christ and his return to life. According to some historians, the English Church used to take already existing words to express ecclesiastical terms. However, the word chosen is somewhat controversial and in some Protestant groups in the US, they prefer to call it 'Resurrection Day'.
