Chapel
This word comes from the Old French word chapelle, which in turn derives from the Latin cappella, meaning "little cape". It was originally a reference to the place where the miraculous cape of St. Martin of Tours was kept. In the 13th century the term was applied to any sanctuary in Europe, and then it was introduced into the English language with that meaning.
